The answer to the above question is that they know that Iran does not have any nuclear weapons and so Israel can win. In the process, the hope is that the Palestinians will not sit back and watch fellow Muslims being killed and will retaliate and give the Israeli government an excuse to occupy all Palestinian land including Gaza. Thousands of Palestinians would be killed in the process. The only unknown factor in this equation is that nobody knows for certain how strong the Iranian armed forces really are. They have the manpower, but how well equipped are they? Netanyahoo (deliberate mistake) is willing to gamble that the Iranians are not strong enough to do too much damage to Israel. What would the UN do if this scenario occurs? Not a thing, because the USA would veto any UN retaliation.
I am no expert, but this is how I see things at this precise moment.
